"Best host I've met throughout my 1 month stay around China. Most helpful, friendly, responsive host that I've ever met. Host was very friendly, waited for us when we arrive at train station, pick us up and brought us to lunch at a local noodle shop, give us a brief introduction of Pingyao Ancient City (what to see, what to eat and what NOT to eat). His place is spectacularly well maintained, spotless clean (we've met a lot of other places that is not true to pictures provided, but this host really manage his place well). Bath towels and hand towels are provided, with good hot shower, aircon, hairdryer and slippers too. All other amenities are provided as well. When we told host that we wanted to purchase vinegar (one of the popular items at the ancient city), host brought us to a small shop to purchase (we saw some restaurant owners from beijing buying from that shop as well, showing its a good and trustworthy shop). On our last day, host even drive us to train station early in the morning, brought us to breakfast (and even pay for it!) and wish us a safe journey back. First ever host that we met that did not talk about money all the time (we met a lot of other host that provides lotsa service, with additional cost to each). We feel totally welcomed and treated like a friend! Would definitely stay here when we are visiting Pingyao again! "

"The hotel makes a very welcome change from some of the other hotels we have stayed in in China. The rooms are arranged around a series of peaceful courtyards, in the style typical for Pingyao. We had a superior double room. The room is full of character, with antique furniture. The owner speak good English. We booked a day trip via the hotel to visit Wang Family Courtyard and Zhangbi Underground Castle, which were very interesting and enjoyable. We can highly recommend the hotel."

"Beautiful redesign of a traditional hu tong to include all the mod cons. Centrally located but gives you the peace and quiet you crave in such environment. Food was also very decent. Very lucky to meet the owner of the hotel, allowing us to get to know the local side of ping Yao."

"We booked based on the great ratings on agoda and trip adviser and were not disappointed. This is a traditional courtyard house in Pingyao and the rooms are small but full of character and surprisingly comfortable. Beds are on traditional brick bases but the mattresses end up being softer and more comfortable than most of the western style hotels we stayed in in China. They have a great restaurant for all meals and staff are very friendly, we were disappointed to leave and wished we'd planned another day there."

"Travelled with family during Christmas. Mr Chen and Ms Sun are super helpful. They took care us very well from pick up at the train station to when we left. Also they could arrange day tour just we had our own plan so maybe next time. The location of the hotel is excellent which is very close to the south gate and walkable to all sighseeing spots. We arrive at 8pm and still able to find a good place for dinner. It was around minus 25 degree at night and the room was still very warm. Love the decor in the hotel. We tried both chinese and western breakfast and we love it. One downside of out stay was we booked the family room and it was too "open" hope the hotel could do something to hide the private area. I would recommend Water Hotel and would love to stay here again."
