Not my expectation, polluted, very commercial and mostly business by out sided people from others province.
This country is so scenic and beautiful. There are many snow mountains and national parks that you can visit.
Wonderful National Park with beatiful plants, and very big green field with beautiful animals. A great place for relaxation and the scenery of the great nature.
Still natural compare with other city in china has been commercialize due to tourism, People who has interest on the history and religion should visit Songzanlin just smaller than the popular Potala Palace in Tibet.
Shangri-La is right on the edge of Tibet, and is a good place to go for a taste of Tibetan culture if you're not keen on all the hassle of going into Tibet itself.
We walked the cobbled streets of Dukezong (Shangrila)Yunnan on Monday/Tuesday - Jan 6/7 before it was destroyed by a massive fire on Jan 10th and which was reported across all the major newswires.
City only justifies 1 or 2 days - but if you have time need to get into countryside which often involves overnight stay (I did not have time to do this).
Shangri-La is an awesome area with fantastic scenery. Plenty to do from walking the old city, visiting the Songlanzing monastery, cycling napa hai grasslands, potatso national park and plenty more.
Another traditional town transformed onto an artificial touristic cash maker, including a fake buddist temple up on a hill with the biggest ever praying weel.
Beautiful area. You can try Yak meat here, it's really good. Arro Khampa-Damien & Ting's Tibetan Bistro is the best restaurant!
download Google translation app, visit Napa LAke, Naxi village, Shika Mt, plenty good shopping and eating , history Tibetan area, religious temples,
Will need staminas and longer stays in order to explore the nearby attractions. Each attraction will at least take you 1/2 to 1 day.
enjoyed our stay in shangri-la plenty of tourist attractions but be warned when you travel to any national park in china there is usually a 100y plus fee to pay.
Best things to visit are the Monasteries, the National Park, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Tibetan houses and the old town.
