Xining hotels & places to stay

Western (French) style 5 star. Everything beautiful and friendly. Nice to find in a very convenient section of town. Not the center of town, the west end of town, yet near the highway so airport is still within 45 minute drive, I would guess. Food is great, yet nearby theater, restaurants and probably some of the best that Xining has to offer for those who would stay at a 5 star. For those of us who look for 2-4 stars this one is a real treat and you will not be dissapointed in the least.

I was in Xining for 24 hours to get acclimated to altitude for a greater adventure. San Want must have realised that, for they put me on the 21 st floor. :-D They id, in fact, realise that, as they took in account my later arrival on the train and my late departure on same and without my asking pushed back my checkout time by two hours. Thank you so much. My only complaint was that I was unable to get picked up at the train station, eve though they offer airport pick up. Perhaps this service is offered, but I was unable to arrange it through Agoda. The room was excellent and the breakfast buffet was more than adequate. The desk was very helpful when I asked about food options in the city and helped explain my destination to the taxi. Perhaps better English could be hoped for, although they were all at least eager to do their best. And, the night check in person (late 08/03) had excellent English to go with her extremely friendly manner.

We had just completed our trip in Tibet and we were thinking to give ourselves a nice treat to stay in this nice hotel , and this was really a right decision we had made. Upon checking in of this hotel, we were informed that we had been selected as the Guest Of The day and were upgrading from Superior Apartment to Deluxe Apartment, and we were entitled to utilise the facility of the business lounge and free dinner for 4 persons. The dinner in the business lounge was superb, we can try so many types of wine even though we were not social drinkers, we did try out few types of wine, and the meals were delicious. The apartment was really big, comfortable and clean. There were few shopping mall just by walking distance and very convenience to shop around, there was also a largest book shop in China just across the road. Must pay a visit to the bookshop. We promised that we will sure be back hotel.

Overall, staff is young and helpful. Place is clean, comfy, and quiet. English is not spoken here, though! Because of a transportation snafu, I ended up staying 2-nights and into the afternoon to catch 1 0 pm plane. They changed me from a windowless room (not a problem as I arrived at 10 PM) the first night into a windowed room. They also charged me only 1/3 day rate of an extended stay until 6 pm. In truth, if I had not mentioned anything, probably would have just checked me out. LOCATION: Great - a block from Railway Square to all points and the regional bus station. Lots of restaurants on street and nearby City Mall has great food. Finding the darn plac: Xining is not Beijing or Shanghai and so a hotel named James Joyce without a Chinese name means nothing to taxi drivers. The signage is poor and it's tucked into a little alcove Bring the phone number so your cabbie can call. TIP - it's right next to M Hotel and Boran Hotel, which has GREAT signage.

I am in general a fan of the JinJiang Inn chain for cheap, clean, no frills Chinese hotels. The JinJiang Inn Xining Dashizi was no exception. The rooms are large and clean for a relatively inexpensive price. There is a small restaurant on site which is ok, but there are a lot of cheaper choices within walking distance. The location is good in general for finding food, groceries, and shopping within walking distance. The only downside is that taxis are not allowed in the city center during the day, so you will have to walk about two blocks away to catch a cab.

It was a pleasant place to stay. The rooms are simple, but clean. There is free Wifi in the room. Chinese style breakfast is available for an additional 20 RMB (they do have toast, butter, and jam too). The beds are comfortable. Most 2-3 star hotels in China have really hard beds which are uncomfortable to sleep in. I would recommend Jinjiang Inn primarily because of the comfortable beds.

We were only there for one night, so limited experience. But with our non-existent Chinese language, I have to say that the staff of this hotel were excellent - really went out of their way to make us feel welcome, to arrange airport taxi etc etc. One reception staff spoke English and she was willing to help even out of hours, and when we left at 4.30 in the morning! So impressed with their service.
