"We extended our stay, good location with cheap restaurants one side and expensive ones in the old town. Easy to walk everywhere inc the beach. Supermarket close by. We had fridge in room. Air-con did its best! Cold shower but so hot here it was ok even my husband got in it without too much moaning!"

"The staff was friendly, not all spoke English which was only a minor inconvenience. The taxi had a very difficult time finding the place (we stopped to ask 6 people on the street, including vendors, as well as 3 traffic police who flagged down another on a motorbike, none knew where the hotel was located). We ended up finding it essentially by chance when I recognized the plants out in front. The location is not ideal if you want to tour the old town, which I did all of my five days in Cartagena. It was annoying to return to the hotel, especially since each taxi needed to be guided for a successful return, and I don’t speak Spanish. Breakfast was simple, but adequate. Eggs cooked to order, as long as you can communicate to the chef (in Spanish) how you would like them done. When I asked another front desk employee (not Ronal, he was helpful, courteous, and capable) for an espresso I was told that the, “machine is off”. Well yes, I can see that, but as an owner of an espresso machine I understand that there is an “on” switch which would alleviate this problem. I did book a lovely tour to the Rosario islands per Ronal’s request, which I recommend. As a friendly single traveler always up for adventure, it is not uncommon for me to meet new friends. Sometimes these meetings extend late into the evening as we return to the hotel to continue to get to know one another, this happened with a salsa partner I met in the city. However, despite paying for a “double room” on Agoda.com, when my salsa partner and I returned to continue our evening as consenting adults, I was told I needed to pay an additional $90,000 COP. This did not sit well with me, as the charge was for something I felt could be enjoyed without issue between consenting adults and also something I already paid for with my reservation. A (relatively) minor fine, but more the principle of the issue left a strong distaste which unfortunately will prevent me from staying in Hotel La Artilleria again."

"It is well located and close to the center and even at night it feels safe to walk around. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was good. Insulation in the room isn’t great so it could be a problem if the neighbors are loud, but it was quite ok for us. There are a couple of restaurants in the same street. The WiFi isn’t great and you’d better get closer to the reception area if you need to checkout stuff online. I’d come back to this hotel if I were to visit Cartagena again."
