Lijiang City hotels & places to stay

I would like to start off by saying that I am extremely critical when it comes to hotels. I am particular on cleanliness, service and value. if you are looking for a hotel in Lijiang, look no further. The hotel is extremely clean and has a very traditional and quaint ambience. It is quiet and peaceful. The rooms are cosy and warm, and the location is just a stones throw away from the old city, which is great for food / exploring. On to their service - now this is where the hotel really shines. The people in yunnan are generally great. Willing to help, and honest (as far as I know). However, the staff at this hotel go the extra mile, to sit down with you and give you proper recommendations and to avoid touristy areas and not to mention make you a cup of delicious tea. One of the main reasons I am comepelles to review is because of the exceptional service. So, do yourself a favour and book this hotel! I had roughly planned my holiday in Yunnan -- fly into Lijiang and then get an overnight train to Kunming and a bus to the Honghe. But within minutes of my arrival, the plan fell to pieces -- the train tickets were all sold out! So I went to the hotel -- which I must admit is not easy to find because it's tucked in a alleyway near the north gate of the ancient city, not near the hustle and bustle of the main part of town. But the owner who also manages the place came to pick me up from the main road and guide me to the hotel. When I told her of my travel problems she was quick to help me -- spending the next 90 minutes sorting out my travel plans as best as she could. This was totally unnecessary but I was ever so grateful. The Inn itself is spectacular -- it's about a 15-20 minute walk to the main part of the ancient city, but the trade off is that it is so peaceful and quiet -- you're guaranteed a good night's sleep. I had the smallest room in the Inn but it was still quite spacious, and the bed was ever so comfortable. The owner helped me book a day trip to the Yulong snow mountain with a travel service that doesn't take you shopping against your will first. And the best part was meeting other travellers at the Inn -- who I ended up having dinner and drinks with and the next day they also went to the snow mountain. Great atmosphere, superior room and new friends -- all thanks the a young lady who is probably the best hotel owner/manager in all of China. You simply must come and stay. Easily a 10/10!

i admire the architecture of this resort and the excellent design and workmanship of the interiors - a perfect blend of traditional and modern designs. the crown plaza lijiang ancient town is centrally located. it has best of both worlds where one can stay in the resort to enjoy serenity and a relaxing spa treatment or to take a stroll at the ancient town with direct access from the side gate. the tee tree spa is beautifully designed with stones and wood; with lots of natural light and landscaped courtyards. the hotel is new, and the staff are friendly and helpful which made our stay very pleasant. a top choice if you visit lijiang.

I wish I could type an essay to express how much grateful we were to have pre-booked this Inn as our choice of stay in LiJiang. Our flight from KunMing to LiJiang was delayed due to unforeseen weather changes yet the 2 young and helpful owners still stayed up to welcome us despite it was already 12am midnight. The Inn looks exactly the same as the displayed pictures - spacious, clean, and very cozy. That's my first impression on this Inn! It has 10 rooms in total, co-managed by 2 young handsome men, namely YangLei & XiaoZhe, and not to forget a chatterbox ChongZi who always brews tea for us, I assure you that's the best tea we've ever consumed! We spent most of our time at the common area to enjoy the slow pace moment & specially brewed PuEr and got to know many friends from all over the world, who all shared the same feeling towards this hotel. I'm back to my home country for weeks, if you were to ask me what do I miss the most in LiJiang? That would certainly be "People and friends"! If you wish to have a homey feel after a long tired travel journey, I highly recommend YueTu to you!

Overall, we had a good stay. Some pros and cons with staying in Lijiang Old City. PROS: Staff - incredibly helpful and honest with local recommendations to restaurants and local tours and sites. They provided a map of Old City. Gave us extra bottles of water when we needed it. The owner even provided airport transfers for us. Staff had friendly attitude. We were also allowed to put our specially prepared meals in their fridge. Location - very convenient to stay in Lijiang Old City Old-styled layout - nice to stay in a place with a nice traditional layout, one of the main reasons we chose to stay in Old City Outside kitchen in common area. Pu-er Tea tasting provided. CONS: It was a bit noisy at night - however that's true of ALL Old City inns since they're traditional houses. Sound can travel easily. They didn't have our Agoda reservation so their reservation system isn't smooth. We called ahead of time and worked everything out. Allergies acted way up. Not sure if it was the Lijiang air or dust in the carpet but be prepared by bringing antihistamines.

My family and I traveled to Lijiang last week and stayed in He Mu Ju for 3 nights. The hotel staff was very kind to pick us up just outside the ancient city in early morning. That surely save us a lot of us to locate the hotel on our own. The hotel manager, Mr. Zheng and his on-duty manager (can't remember his name) were very helpful in allowing us to check in early in the morning, and also provide travel tips for Lijiang. Mr. Zheng was also very kind in allowing us to check out late, allowing us to rest before catching a train back to Kunming. The hotel is clean and the facility is practical, example: Heated floor that keep us warm, especially at night when the temperature could be quite cold. My family and I will surely stay in He Mu Ju again when we next visit Lijiang.

We stayed there for 4 days. the room condition was great and very convenient. and the room has floor heating system so we can enjoy warm air all day and all night in the room. the room has big windows so we could enjoy great view and sunshine also. I couldn't forget a happy new year firework enjoying through windows in my room. Host couple is very kind and helpful and they has no free breakfast but offer some food for your breakfast in their cafe 1F by good price and quality . they has the lounge (3F) has the amazing view of Lijiang city all around for guests for free. any guests stay there can enjoy there. ah. so many chinese restaurant and Lijiang mainstreet are near to there. I will just stay there if I go to Lijiang again. 리장가든인 게스트하우스에서 4박동안 정말 잘 지냈어요. 방도 깨끗하고 뷰도 너무 좋고 햇살도 너무 좋았네요. 호스트 부부도 정말 친절했어요. 저희방 뷰도 좋았지만 3층에 마련한 라운지에서 보는 뷰도끝내줍니다. 만고루 못지않아요^^ 거기서 그냥 개인적으로 차 가져와서 드시면 됩니다. 뜨거운 물은 1층 보온병에 무료로 제공합니다. 진심으로 좋은 곳이었어요. 참 입구에 식당도 많고 슈퍼도 많고 리장고성 중심하고도 가까워요^^ 진심 추천합니다.

This is a charming hotel in Lijiang old town. We found the room to be a good size with a good bathroom and comfortable bed. The staff really went out of their way to help us make the most of our stay. The old town is pedestrianised so note down the hotels telephone number so that your taxi driver can call the hotel when they drop you off at one of the old town entry gates.

5 star hospitality from Mr Alex and Mr Yang . They are so helpful from our check-in process to the end. Provide us with early morning airport-pickup service and help to carry our luggage from the south-gate of Lijiang Ancient city. Then they gave us a free room upgrade which is super cool . Also a plus point for the city guidance they gave which is very helpful for our walk-around in Lijiang. Overall this is the best hotel you can get at a very reasonable price :)

Environment good cost-effective location is very convenient, the boss is also very enthusiastic, to arrange the pick up, driver teacher also special enthusiasm of lijiang is introduced, introduced the, every place have probably understanding travel is a good arrangement! You can also have tea and chat with your boss, naxi. It was in the old town, and it was quite close. There is a sparerib in the side of the food, which is also very special. It is convenient for you to go anywhere. The five-star recommendation is that lijiang must live in the ancient city, and li jiayuan is in the heart of the inn! Also sent a map, to explain! Come and stay here!

Due to delays and bad weather, my mother and I arrived in Lijiang from Shanghai after 14 hours of traveling. We were exhausted by the time we got to the hotel at 2am but we were very impressed by the handpicked utilities and extremely comfortable bed! The kindness of the hosts was beyond our expectation. Kaka was always there to answer any questions and reached out to make sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely visit this lovely family again in the future!

Highly recommended. Certainly one of the best hotel experience I've had. This boutique hotel in the Lijiang Ancient Town (Gu Cheng) has everything u would need, Air-con with functioning heater, Good audio system, DVD, Wi-fi, and computer in the rooms! This hotel was formally an Art House! While keeping the historical design and feel, they renovated the bathroom with luxurious modern fittings! The hotel staffs were excellent, very friendly and helpful. They assisted us in all the things that we need, providing maps, recommending the places the go, things to take note of, and arranging for all our tours and transports! They could even arrange home cook dinner for you at the hotel. The only thing is to book your room/s early as there are only 9 rooms in this hotels and try to get those rooms in the 2nd level as there are less privacy and may be quite noisy for those rooms on the ground level.

the main downside or upside of the hotel is its location on hill. it is a 3-5 minutes walk uphill from the central square of old town which is buzzling. do not try to walk to hotel on your own as this hotel has no proper signage leading up to the entrance. it is recommend to arrange transfer with hotel as taxis cannot bring you through the pedestrianised old town. they would have to use the hilly road from the other side of the hill near the old town north entrance the panorama view in the morning and evening from the hotel is breaktaking with the mountain range surrounding the low rise tile roof of lijiang old town. the entire property was beautifully converted from an old house with courtyard and balcony. service is friendly and helpful. breakfast is made to order noodle soup or portridge. my room on the upper floor was gorgeous with a small star-gazing glass window on the roof top and a balcony with outdoor table and chairs. the interior design is quite similar to the chic contemporary room design of phnom penh's the 240 hotel, with natural light and local wood. the hotel offers an outside food delivery service which charges only rmb15 where you can order anything from the menu of half a dozen fast food restaurants like kfc, pizza hut and local chinese fast food chain. i ordered two items (no order limit) from the room's landline and within 30 minutes, the food was delivered to my room by the outside delivery guy! it was excellent way to settle into the room and have hot food delivered to you. this hotel is very popular with locals, so i could not even extend my stay after two nights since i enjoyed the place very much.

Located in the heart of Lijiang Old Town which is very convenience to explore the city. The atmosphere of the hotel is very nice , quiet and beautiful with the ancient Chinese Style decoration. Facility in the room is in the good condition and make me stay comfortable. The area of improvement : If the breakfast time could start earlier than 8.30 PM then it will be good for guests who plan to leave hotel early for the day trip.

Wonderful guest house that really made my visit to Lijiang enjoyable. There are a variety of types of rooms in the very large and family-living style guest house. I stayed in both a private and dorm room and they were both very clean and comfortable. I liked the local details like the outdoor kitchen area as well as the home-cooked meal you can get for just 25 RMB. It was huge and delicious, just try it! Location is good, not great, about 15-20 min walk to the ancient town. But if you want to be closer it will cost a lot more! There are plenty of local restaurants and convenience stores around if you need anything faster, however. I was also not the easiest guest- my flight was so delayed I arrived at 5 in the morning; I shipped a package to the hostel and kept asking about when it would arrive; I asked a lot of annoying questions about last minute bookings for buses and tours... despite all of this, the staff/family at Mama Naxi were really gracious and helped me out to no end, pretty much answering every question and obliging every request. I did so much more in and around Lijiang thanks to their help than I would otherwise. Would definitely recommend Mama Naxi as a great place to stay in Lijiang!

Good cheap option for Lijiang. It's a little walk from the Old Town, but definitely within walking distance. You have to enter through a little walkway that's easy to miss. The room was not bad and it was clean. Bed wasn't super comfortable but it wasn't bad, and the room had basically everything that I would need! Shower didn't get that hot, but it was warm enough for a quick shower. If you want to get the best Lijiang experience, pick somewhere that is in the old town. If you just want a comfortable place that's cheap, this is a good option.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel and room is quite cute. They have tea and cake at reception for guests. Staffs are very nice with 1 guy can speak English quite well which helped us a lot to look for local restaurants. I booked Jade dragon mountain tour and Romantic show of Lijiang at hotel with reasonable price. They also provided free pick up service at train station for us. Great hotel I have known.

I had a great time in this hotel. The place is a little difficult to find (as all guest houses located in the old town) because it is located in an alley. The taxi driver called the hotel for instructions on how to get there and Ayu, the guest house owner, came to pick me up in the street to show me the way to the hotel. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom is quite big and comfortable. All the rooms look to the patio, including the reception room. Ayu and her husband invited me and other guests to have tea with them on a rainy afternoon. They also invited us for dinner that evening, which make my experience in Lijiang a special one. Ayu and her assistant cooked the most delicious meal I had tried in a long time in China. Ayu really knows how to make her guests feel at home and I want to thank her for giving me this wonderful experience in Lijiang. She speaks English as a native speaker. If you like pets, you will adore the two big dogs in the house. Regarding Lijiang, I felt it was like a big shopping mall where you can get nice things for a good price. You will be a little disappointed if you are looking for folk traditions. Maybe you can go to Shangri-La or Dali for that.

We were delighted with our room at the Waterfront Inn. We had a great view over one of the little canals and the room was very spacious with a separate sitting area. It was tastefully decorated and had alot of glass windows which made it very bright (though it also meant that the houses on the opposite side of the canal could look in quite easily). The bathroom was well equipped with a great shower and bath products. Michael, the manager, was really helpful - from guiding us to the Inn on our first evening (it is hard to find at first) to providing information on the local area. The Inn itself is situated in a quiet part of town which is a bonus as the central tourist areas are too noisy and bustling. At the Waterfront Inn you can really wind down and imagine Lijiang in another era. We enjoyed our trip to Lijiang and will definitely be back to visit again.

Due to the closure of their Springland branch for renovation, they have upgraded us to their Skyland branch. It was located up the Lion Hills, apart from the climbing, however there are eco tram which you could ride on. Prior to our arrival, as we are staying at their inn at Shangarila, they contacted us about the upgrade and also give us clear instruction and getting there and the pick up. Truly, the experience was great! From the receptionist to the room cleaning aunty and the coffee house assistant, they have upkeep their best service level, making our stay very comfortable and well satisfy. The environment was magnificient great. You could see that the owner take in great effort in the decoration to provide te best experience. Free free to ask them for any assiatnce and information about day trip etc, they will be most glad to assist you. You could see the sincerity and friendliness in them. The warmth they have extended during the stay had given us much confidence to look for the in the future and not to mention to give them great credit. Well, we stayed at their inn at both at Lijiang & Shangarila, and it was definitely the better choice. Bottomline... surperb service, nice home cooked breakfast and warm environment.

Booked a two night stay here with my parents but ended up doubling our stay. Tom is a great host with lots of great suggestions and goes out of his way to make you feel right at home. The rooms and facilities are impeccably clean, and the location, while up a hill, is a nice reprieve from the hustle of Lijiang's old town. We used this as a base both to explore Lijiang city and take a few days detour to hike Tiger Leaping Gorge.
