Jilin Province hotels & places to stay

It was a pleasure to stay at the Shangrila in Changchun. The hotel is up to international standards in all respects. Service was friendly and helpful and courteous. The food in the exectutive lounge and in the restaurants was also excellent. I spoke with the general maanger and learned how seriously he takes his responsibilities to keep the hotel efficient and up-to-standards.

To me, the minimum requirement for a hotel is good shower and bed. The room I stayed in was extremely stinky with the smell of the dirty pipe. The pillows were very uncomfortable. It was too low to sleep with one pillow and too high with two. The breakfast on the first day was fairly ok but the second day was a complete crap. The congee was extremely watery and tasted like expired soup. The side dishes were extremely salty. The extra money I paid for breakfast was a complete waste. The location is far from the city centre. My friend drove nearly an hour to pick me up because it is a new rural area. I definitely will not recommend this hotel to anyone and will not stay there ever again.

the room that we got for first time when we check-in was not suitable for 5 stars hotel, there were hairs, soaked tea leafs in washing counter and bathe tube, there was a dark spot on the pillow without using, the bathe rope also was wet before using. so we went to the front desk and told staff about this matters. they provided us the new room which next 2 room from the first room, and the new room that we got, there was also a problem, there was a sun flower's seed fail under the sofa in the room. i thought that the staff will find the better room or the better view. but anyway the interior in the room was good. location of the hotel was good. the facilities in the hotel were very good. the hot spring that we used must be clean up, because there were tree leafs fail and soaked under the pool which look so dirty. by the way i like this hotel, and hope that the next trip to Chang bai Mountain will have chance and good experience with this hotel again.

The ratings given should say it all. No shortfall in most areas, except for room cleanliness. We are unable to rate excellent. Though, still is in public places and club lounge. We forwarded our concern and was managed tactfully. Sincerely, thanking Tony, Front Desk Manager, and Amanda, Front Office Manager, who came forward to us in an apologetic manner. We accepted. We understood in the one-off occassion that we experienced and wish no reoccurrence to other guests. An exemplary service extended by Tony and Amanda in taking the ownership and responsibility. They are the true asset in the Group. Believe us! We were surprised with the resort area of the hotel in the middle of the Changbaishan resort, although early days, still a work in progress, it has the potential to be a great area, for sightseeing and skiing in the winter season. Good range of Hotels and restaurants all in walking distance. Airport shuttle is provided, west side of mountain is close, north side is still a 2 hour drive away.

There is no help to get to and from the airport..., it is a long distance away..., local cabbies don’t want to make the trip without paying extra..., if they would at least provide a willing taxi or taxis, not necessarily affiliated with them, but willing to make the trip...., other than that one issue..., I think they are great!! Friendly, clean, no hassles...., but that is always the big issue when I go, I am a foreigner who doesn’t speak the language well, and I am on my own!!

The Westin, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Resort and two to be opened Hyatt hotels are all located within the same Wanda compound. Same location, same facade and suspectingly, same level of comfort and facilities. Hence, I could not understand the huge price differentiate among them. The Westin, of course is the most expensive of them all. The Westin has well-appointed rooms with all the usual amenties in the room, but lacking in F&B options. In fact, there are only 2 restaurants (a buffet restaurant and a Korean restaurant), which gave us not much of an option. Travelling to the Songjianghe town would require almost 20-30 mins travel. Service-wise, this Westin is way behind its sister hotels in other cities. Check-in line was long & slow, considering that it was already 7pm when I checked in. The receptionist made me write down my SPG card number on a piece of paper even though I had passed her my card. When I asked for an extra bottle of shower gel, it took them 30mins to get to my room. Within this 30mins, I made two calls to the operator to inquire about the slowness. It was during the second call that the operator revealed to me that both the Westin and Sheraton share the same operator and housekeeping staffs. The housekeeping staff was busy at Sheraton and would get over to the Westin to pass me my shower gel when she's done over there. For the rate that I am paying, I do not even get a housekeeping staff dedicated to Westin guests? This is absurb for an international top-tier hotel. Buffet spread was alrite but mostly Chinese. Waffles were terrible. The yogurt had turned bad but was proudly displayed. I will definately return to Changbaishan Wanda again to snowboard during this winter but would turn twice about staying at a Starwood hotel. Perhaps the Park Hyatt and Hyatt Regency would be ready by then to give me more options.

We live in Beijing so we speak a little bit of Chinese, but if you don't you should bring a Mandarin translator book with you as the staff didn't speak English. The room was small but very comfortable (soft bed!) and had a television but no wifi, it was warm enough at night and the bathroom had hot water. Getting a cab on the same side of the street as the hotel was difficult, but we crossed the road several times and never had a problem getting a cab. My only problem with this hotel is that they allow smoking in all rooms and the hallway, so it smelled like cigarettes, as a non-smoker it was bearable but a little gross.

The hotel is not in a tourist type area so there is really nothing to see or do if you stroll around. Having said that it is quite a good clean and efficient hotel to stay at if you are there on business. The rooms are of a reasonable size, clean and quiet. The staff were efficient and welcoming if a little slow to check in. The western breakfast was very good but I was a little dissapointed with the Chinese breakfast which was mainly several different types of bun with very little in them. There was congee (rice soup/porridge) and noodles but none of the Dim Sum type of Chinese food foreigners life. The hotel is about one hour taxi drive from the airport and it will cost about 120 RMB.

Location is good. Breakfast is good. Typical business hotel, fast check in and check out. Accept many types of payment methods / credit cards type. Con:- the drop off at the area is really narrow and one side is always parked with cars. Not the hotel fault as it is next to narrow side roads. However, the attendant at the entrance can do better by not allowing any car to stop without its driver “for a minute”. I was stuck in such “jam” because a driver stepped out her car and said she will be back in a minute on the day of my checkout.
